(Water (and) Lonicera Caprifolium Flower Extract)
Honeysuckle flower (Lonicera japonica) is also known as Japanese honeysuckle and jin yin hua. Lonicera japonica is an evergreen climbing shrub, which is native to Eastern Asia and naturalized in Australia and the US. In summer, the fragrant white flowers are followed by poisonous black berries.
Lonicera japonica is considered an invasive weed in Australia and in some American states.
The honeysuckle flowers are collected in the morning, before they open, and dried for infusions and decoctions. The dried flowers are also used for pot pourri, herb pillows and floral waters. In the kitchen, they can be used to make teas, vinegars, jams, jellies, cake decorations, desserts and wine.
Honeysuckle flowers are rich in salicylic acid; they are considered antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic.
Medicinally, honeysuckle flowers are used internally to treat respiratory and throat infections, boils and nettle rash; externally, they are used on skin inflammations, infectious rashes and sores. Chinese herbalists cleanse and remove poisons from the body with honeysuckle flowers.
Folklore suggests that, if you wear honeysuckle flowers, you might dream of your true love.
We use honeysuckle flower infusion in our Forever In Bloom hair conditioner, soothing the scalp and to moisturise the hair.
