(Cupressus Funebris Wood Oil)
Cedarwood oil (Cupresus funebris) originates from China. It is extracted from the wood of the evergreen shrub by steam distillation. We also use the Virginian variety of cedarwood oil, which comes from Juniperus virginiana.
Cedarwood has a pleasant, woody scent that is used extensively in perfumery. The Chinese variety of the oil is intensely smoky.
Egyptians used cedarwood oil in mummification.
Aromatherapists believe that cedarwood has a sedative and balancing effect on the nervous system. It has been used in meditation to relax and harmonise the mind.
